Sheets for everybody

Bewertet am 2.1.2021

Switching to Google Sheets has simplified so much my days. We now just share links and book mark them for as long as we need, which is so much more easier that keep sending files and integrating changes from one person to another. Best thing is that switching to Google Sheets won't stop you from sharing all that data with other coworkers that are not using it. First, they don't need any special software to see the files. Second, if they really don't want to use it, you can save a local version of the file in the format you want. Almost magic! I'm not planning to go back ever again!

Vorteile

I can apply all the knowledge I have from the previous software I was using! And it's even better: all the formulas are so much more easy to understand and it even has extra formulas that add additional functionalities. The possibility of have a single document where all my team can keep working at the same time and see all the changes in real time is just insane. It's all you knew with a twist for better. Additionally, it's all part of Google Drive so your files will be there for you, anytime, anywere. That has saved my life more times that I can count. Finally, you can save your gsheet files as any other common format that you would like, or better, you can just use the share option and send the link. No more heavy attachments, it's all in the cloud!

Nachteile

For very specific situations, I've found that edge case where I wanted to code a macro. It's possible but I haven't found documentation on how to do it. It's not like other competitors offer a lot of stepy-by-step documentation but they have been out there for so long that you can put together all the articles on the internet to eventually figure out how to do what you need. Secondly, it's not good to handle very large files (200k rows and up), especially if they include a formula. It sometimes blocks editing until all the changes are applied and saved to the cloud, and it's not a hardware issue--even with a gaming grade pc happens.

The best to share sheets table

Bewertet am 30.1.2023

Google Sheets is ideal for users with basic needs. However, those managing large databases, requiring precise formatting or advanced computations may need more powerful software.

Vorteile

Cloud-based systems provide immediate answers and automatic saving to your drive, making it a useful feature. The collaboration capability is excellent, a hallmark of Google products. Although competitors offer similar features, Google Sheets offers a more effective solution for teams, as everyone has a Google account for faster access to the document and can work on their part at any time.

Nachteile

A potential drawback of Google Sheets is its limited advanced features or customization options compared to other spreadsheet software, as there is no paid plan or added features beyond compatible plugins with the online tool

Easy Tool for Analysis and Charts

Bewertet am 29.3.2020

Using Google Sheets has helped me manage my list of new and existing product skus for marketing optimization and analysis purposes. I have been able to dig deeper into why certain marketing campaigns or tactics perform better than the others for specific products, categories or customers. So, I can spend more money on tactics which improve my product conversions and ROI while reducing my spend on those tactics which are driving lower conversions and profits. I have been able to optimize my paid media spend and sku list with lower investments in software. So, my business has become more profitable.

Vorteile

I use Google Sheets tool to collect all item skus I sell on my e-commerce website. So, I can concatenate them as one single string and apply as a filter in Google Analytics product performance report. I then run the report in Google Analytics by applying segment of specific email or social campaign and export it in Google Sheets format to pull a visual trend on sales over time. This strategy helps me quickly analyze the impact of external campaigns so I can determine any new items sales and new customers. Additionally, I can easily share my analysis with my business partner, so he is also in the loop on our business ROI. I give him edit rights, so he can add his own comments or products data from the categories he is managing. We both love the fact that if our computers freeze or shut down for a reason, our data gets saved in cloud.

Nachteile

Google Sheets tool has limited charting or data visualization capabilities when compared to Microsoft Excel. For example: when I try to create a stacked column chart using Google Sheets, it doesn't look that professional or easy to read. The copy tab feature can also be improved. Currently, I can copy a specific tab from one sheet to the next but it includes additional text 'copy of' or something along with the original tab name. So, I have the delete that additional text every time I make a copy. Microsoft Excel doesn't include that additional text. Finally, converting an Excel file with multiple tabs into a Google Sheet is not that simple. It is not easy to convert a specific tab and the whole file has to be converted.

I chose Google Sheets over Microsoft Excel because it is cheaper to maintain, easy to save list of product skus and collaborate with my business partner and employees.

A cheaper alternative to Microsoft Word

Bewertet am 8.12.2022

Vorteile

It's nice how this app doesn't actually require anything to be installed as it's all web based. As a result, you don't need to deal with any software updates. Since it's web based, it loads a lot faster than a traditional word editing application.

Nachteile

Some of the features that I'm familiar with in Excel are not as intuitive within Sheets; however, usually a quick google will find the solution I need.

Everything, just everything. For me, it has been revolutionary. And since I am a remote worker there's is nothing better for us than Google's suite of apps. Plus, it is free!

Nachteile

There are some limitations to its functions & features. I am not able to recall but I faced some problem with one of the feature which is not available on sheets but it is there on Excel. But again if I can't remember it then it's not a big deal.

Powerful tool in data analytics and collaboration

Bewertet am 31.1.2023

Overall, i am happy with google sheets and it does the job, making my own job a lot easier and more efficient.

Vorteile

Google sheets is one of my most used tools in my role as analytics and market insights manager. Just like MS excel, it is very easy to use and has a multitude of functionalities that make data analysis easier and more efficient. Additionally, it is very easy to share which makes collaboration with teammates a breeze.

Nachteile

Just one thing i think google sheets should improve on would be that you will not be able to easily view cell references when double clicking a cell with formula. While it does show the actual formula, unlike MS excel, the cells referenced in the formula do not appear boxed and moving from one cell reference to another requires manual typing

An easy way to manage my data

Bewertet am 30.1.2023

In my work, this software has helped me a lot with the different formulas to perform calculations and the dynamic tables that I can make for projections or presentations of financial statements.

Vorteile

I have used this software for more than 2 years, and it has been very useful in my day-to-day work because with it, I have been able to manage large amounts of data and handle large amounts of information, as well as being able to perform calculations and advanced formulas in a way very easy

Nachteile

The only limitation that I have found with the work that I do is that when uploading a Microsoft Word file and converting it into a Google spreadsheet, the formulas are not converted, and they have to be generated again, but for everything else it is an excellent software

Google Sheets: an excellent choice for free

Bewertet am 30.1.2023

Google Sheets is an excellent choice for individuals and teams seeking a free, accessible, and simple-to-use spreadsheet program. Those who require more advanced customization options or offline functionality, on the other hand, may prefer other options.

Vorteile

Accessible from any location with an internet connection and a Google account. A single sheet can be edited by multiple users at the same time, making it ideal for group projects. It works well with other Google products like Google Drive and Google Forms. An easy-to-use interface with a plethora of built-in formulas and functions.

Nachteile

When compared to other spreadsheet programs such as Microsoft Excel, customization options are limited. It is not suitable for offline work because it requires an internet connection to access and use. When working with large data sets or performing complex calculations, performance can be slow.

Google Sheets has become something I use Daily!

Bewertet am 24.1.2021

I love love love it. So much. I use it all the time (daily), and our processes are better off with it.

Vorteile

I love that Google Sheets is easy to use, intuitive, and comes with a wide range of possibilities. I use it everyday to keep track of my personal finances in the way that works best for me. It does everything I need it to. I also use it all the time for work. Sharing Sheets with clients is easy and extremely helpful. They are able to modify the sheets if needed and share information with me in real time without needing the send a document back and forth. We use them in meetings and are able to make changes in front of each other in real time. I love too that you're able to keep track of changes made by different users. That's a new feature I discovered recently in the program that has become extremely useful. It's increased our productivity and has made these types of tasks and sharing information so much smoother and easier. I love it. So much.

Nachteile

Some of the processes I've needed to implement took a little longer than others to figure out, but overall it does most if not all (by figuring out alternatives) I need it to do.

Great Product But Not As Powerful as Industry Leader

Bewertet am 17.3.2020

I highly recommend Google Sheets for users with basic needs. If you're managing large databases, or need to do precise formatting or even just have to run advanced computations with your data, you'll definitely want more powerful software.

Vorteile

I love that Google Sheets is a free spreadsheet tool that can help you manage data in useful ways. It's included with every Gmail subscription, so there's little to no barrier for users, and sharing files with others is incredibly easy.

Nachteile

There are several nagging issues in Google Sheets. Sometimes my dates won't format automatically, or cells won't align automatically. When I'm using the industry-standard software, none of these issues are present, though that other software places a heavy load on my computer and can sometimes cause crashes.

A good free alternative to Excel—if you need free

Bewertet am 14.7.2020

Since I don't use super-advanced features, I would say my experience is mostly fine, but I probably wouldn't go out of my way to suggest the use of Google Sheets over Excel—I would offer it as a suggestion to someone who either didn't have the money to spend on a spreadsheets software or if their intentions were limited to relatively simple or common tasks like making a monthly budget or creating a to-do list.

Vorteile

The basic features of Google Sheets are very easy to use, especially if like me, you spent the first 30 years of your life on Microsoft products. Google didn't reinvent the wheel and most of the functions used in Google have identical syntax to Excel, so you won't spend time re-learning how to sum your rows or columns. If you don't need to do anything overly complex in a spreadsheet, Sheets is an absolutely acceptable alternative to its competitor

Nachteile

While the basic features are simple and easier. Some of the "intermediate" features require a bit of research. For example, basic conditional formatting is fairly straight forward—however, if you want to do even a little bit beyond basic, for example, look for duplicates (which is very straightforward in Excel), you need to apply custom functions within conditional formatting rules. And if you're not relatively informed or willing to sit through a YouTube tutorial, it's not going to be super clear what the correct answer is. Also, Google's customer service doesn't usually supply any help here; I've seen numerous threads between customers and Google where customers ask how to do very common tasks or ask about common features and the reply is a resounding "We don't do that.". I'm in a privileged position because I work at a company that actually teaches people how to use Google Sheets, so I have a free resource to teach myself tricks if necessary, but despite this, the syntax for "complicated" tasks is easy to forget and I do often find myself looking up the same things over and over again.

Vorteile

I like how integrates with other apps I use both inside and out of the Google environment. For what I need it for it does everything that Excel does and you always have it because it is in the cloud.

Nachteile

You need connectivity to access your files and you need to have a Google gmail account. Which 98% of the time is not an issue.

Vorteile

I love that the financial secretary and I can both be on the same sheet to coordinate purchase orders. It makes it so much easier than having to coordinate our schedules to be in the same room to work on this type of task.

A lot of features, ease of use and a great support community

Bewertet am 25.11.2020

Google Sheets is definitely the best solution I've met so far for managing a large number of spreadsheets. Based on the cloud, sharing the files is as simple as clicking a button. All necessary features are present and perfectly working. Documents are organized in your Google Drive, so they can be arranged in folders and can be browsed or searched very easily.

Vorteile

The software has all the features you could think of, it's fully compatible with Microsoft Excel and documents can be shared very easily with different access policies. And if you need a template or a particular solution to a specific problem, you can count on thousands of users who post tips, templates, suggestions and the support offered by Google.

Nachteile

Formatting cells is not always intuitive (especially for dates and times), and when you import data from other systems it may take a while to fix numbers and other fields (importing data into Excel or Apple Numbers is a little easier, with a formatting options menu presented right after the import). The user interface is not really appealing from a graphical point of view: it may be improved.

Awesome document sharing tool

Bewertet am 25.11.2019

Google sheets allows you to upload information on file on real time so we have decreased the 'updates' emails and have managed to improve the communication with other departments.
All this, in a very light way without having to use heavy programs. At this moment, it is the best option for our organization.

Vorteile

Google sheets is great to build documents without having to create multple versions in order to have a track. It allows you to work on it at the same time of your coworkers which saves time and make group work smoother.
I love the possibility to give different access to the people you share the file with (edit, comment and view) that is super useful when sharing the file with big groups or different departments. This way you can be sure no ones accidentally erases important data. You can also easily check the logs of the users who have edited the file.
So far, this is the best tool to work on shared documents I have found so far

Nachteile

Sometimes it is tricky to try to find out features available on Excel on Google sheets so it can be a bit frustrating for a second but usually there is a tutorial or an article in google that explains exactly what you are looking for in no time.

Spreadsheets with all the functionalities you need

Bewertet am 12.2.2020

Google Sheets has allowed me to keep easy track of expenses in my business and submit data sheets for taxes and other administrative purposes to my accountant. I can always look back since I've stored them permanently in Google Drive. This has hugely simplified my financials and administrative work by using all the functionalities of calculation, sorting and more in Google Sheets.

Vorteile

Google Sheets is a perfect addition to the Google family. You can take data from Google docs or elsewhere and organize it neatly in a spreadsheet. Google Sheets is very similar to Excel, but it's entirely free and also on the cloud, which is quite useful when you're away from your computer. Combining it with Google Drive really makes it a complete solution, where you can store, share, and invite others to save it to their Drive, edit or view.

Nachteile

It takes a bit of time to get used to the layout and become comfortable with all the features, but this is to be expected with any tool like this, unless you're already a regular, experienced user of spreadsheets. Being on the cloud could also be a slight disadvantage if the data you're entering is privileged, but the benefit of being able to access it on the go outweighs that slight negative, for me.

Google Sheets is great for individual and collaborative use.

Bewertet am 5.11.2019

I use Sheets for almost everything I do: meeting registration and check-in, financial tracking, event signup, project planning, media management. I even built a relational database entirely in Sheets (it runs a little slowly -- Sheets is NOT a database platform -- but it works for our organization size).

Vorteile

Google Sheets offers an excellent (see what I did there?) spreadsheet experience with easy team collaboration and loads of extensibility. I can share a sheet with collaborators and have easy-to-use, granular control over access levels from team member to team member, down to the individual spreadsheet cell! Google Apps Script means that if there's a feature you need that Sheets doesn't have, you can create it.

Nachteile

My only issue is that I can't customize the menus the way I could in Microsoft Excel. The finicky little differences in functionality between Sheets & Excel used to bother me, but that has fallen off over the years.

The Best Free Solution for Spreadsheet Creating and Editing

Bewertet am 11.3.2021

I use Google Sheet for personal and business stuff and I never had any problems with it and it's my favorite data managing tool now and I like how fast you get to use it and the share option saved my team and me a lot of time.
It's a great alternative for everyone and overall, I'm very happy using it daily.

Vorteile

It's an all-in-one tool and I like how I'm able to create, edit, and manage spreadsheets in one place without the need to have any software installed on my Laptop.
I'm using it for creating data spreadsheets for my business and it works great for me and I never had a single problem.
The best thing about Google Sheet is I'm able to work on my spreadsheets on any device especially with my phone and I only need my Google account.
It's very simple and with a user-friendly interface and also, I really don't need to have a lot of knowledge to deal with Google Sheet and I didn't waste my time learning some of the basics and how to use it, and it has the same formulas other software uses and some extra too and it works great with Google Docs and Slides.
Also, I like the autosave option because I don't need to save a file every time I make a change and I also, I love how all my Spreadsheets are saved in the cloud in Google Drive automatically and this allowed me to save a lot of time and stop worrying about losing my files.
I can edit my files even I'm offline and after connecting to the internet it updates all the changes automatically.
I can share all the Spreadsheets I want with my team, and they can see it and edit it too and this is amazing especially for my business because we needed this kind of platform without the need to install any software on all company computers.
Using Google Sheets allows us to be able to work on the same file at the same time without any problems.

Nachteile

I wish they can add more formats and formulas to this amazing tool in the future.
Sometimes when I have an Excel file and I open it with Google Sheet I lose some formats and the data gets missed up.
But, after all, Google has done an excellent job allowing us to use this tool for free and I hope they will keep updating it in the future.

Simple but full-featured spreadsheet

Bewertet am 20.3.2019

I greatly enjoyed the inter-operability of Google Sheets and other Google apps. For instance Google Sheets serves as a back and data source for Google forms. There are also dozens of plug-ins available to enhance the abilities of Google Sheets. On the whole, I find that Google Sheets more than meets my needs at least 95% of the time. And best of all, it's free!

Vorteile

Google Sheets does 95% of the tasks that common users of Microsoft Excel expect at 0% of the cost. The web-based spreadsheet application has come along way since its debut. From graphing and charting to complex formulas, Google Sheets offers a very full-featured and pleasant alternative to the Redmond giant’s original office application. The interface is simple and more comparable to earlier versions of Excel. While Google Sheets is a web browser based application, it can still be used off-line. The experience is pretty much the same on any platform. Of course Google’s Chrome browser seems to have the least issues with Google Sheets. As it is also cloud-based software, it’s a snap to share any file with other users via Google Drive. Files can be downloaded to your desktop and used in other spreadsheet programs. Google also supports importing of many spreadsheet file formats.

Nachteile

Like most Google products. The official support is a few webpages. Fortunately, a huge user community contributes several thousands of webpages and YouTube videos. There is no shortage of instructional material. The most complex features found in Excel generally will not be found in Google Sheets. For example, advanced formatting and the most complex statistical analysis packages go beyond Google Sheets abilities. The mobile apps tend to be more limited than the web experience

Google is a great company and I'm sure more features are coming in the future and I hope they can keep the great work.

Vorteile

I like it because It's % 100 Free app from google and it's very easy to use with a clean and useful user interface.
I like how I can create many sheets in one project and use other sheets format.
I can use it on any device mobile or on my PC/Laptop and I can open any file in the mobile app.
I really love the sharing option because this allows me to share and collaborate with others especially my VA's and how I can control who can edit it and who can just view it and when they edit the file I can see it in real-time.
Also, you can see the people working on the sheet and you can see when was the last time the file was edited and who edit it.
I can edit and view sheets without installing Spreadsheets software on my PC/Laptop.
It's also very safe and I feel my files are safe and this is very important because I don't use it just for personal stuff I use it for my business too.
It provides a clean and easy to use workspace for me and for everyone I know and that's why a lot of people are using it around the world.
I get everything in my Google Drive and all sheets are synced and up-to-date and also, I can copy/paste from Google Docs or Google Slides and vice versa.

Nachteile

I would love to be allowed to customize my sheets a little bit.
Sometimes I can't do some things on It but, after all, it very useful.
The need for an internet connection to use it sometimes can be restrictive.

Easy to access

If I were to compare Excel and Google Sheets to horses, I would say Excel is more of a workhorse, capable of moving mass bits of information while Sheets would be more of your racehorse, best used for quick bits of information that you need to get to your team instantaneously. Both are necessary, just function a little different. If you stay within the bounds, Sheets is fantastic.

Vorteile

It is so handy to have access to my sheets anytime I need them and have access to the internet. It's great that this is integrated with GSuite and can transfer over to Excel (for the most part) as well. It's extremely handy to be able to give access to a particular sheet to virtually anybody and quite handy to be able to place restrictions on certain shared users to not be able to modify a certain area/cell, etc. It has most of the same functionality that you'd find in Excel, with a few modifications. That factor makes it clean and simple to use for less complicated tasks.

Nachteile

It's deceiving in that it works so closely to Excel, but it doesn't have near as much of the capability as it's counterpart. You could be creating a rather complicated workbook needing to reference various sheets while utilizing intricate functions and then realize that it won't do what you need it to. This is in part because a lot of the functions are the same/altered. Not a problem because this isn't Excel, but it just takes a bit to get used to the differences and then remember them when you switch between the two quite frequently. It also limits the amount of data you can store on it to whatever is available in your Drive. Again, shouldn't be a problem unless you plan on storing a vast amount of data in one place that could build up rather quickly.

Share the load of projects effectively

Bewertet am 23.10.2018

Positive but often abused. I find myself in constant reminder to my team to have conversations about the direction we want to take in creating a doc/sheet before embarking. Working in today's generation it is often easy to slip into majority type or text for communication and forgetting the importance of verbal conversation. Often it can take longer for both parties to brainstorm, type, review, share, read, digest, type, review, respond, and so on and so forth.

Vorteile

I love being able to work on a project with another teammember simultaneously. This helps increase productivity and cut down on back and forth communications. Its nice to be able to discuss on a project on the phone and look through a sheet together even when video call with screen sharing is not available. I've found google sheets most helpful for tracking data on monthly events and being able to review the year on the whole.
Google sheets makes working across Mac/Windows computers much easier. Its nice to not have to worry about being able to see/access a sheet due to the other party not having and updated platform for Excel.

Nachteile

I caution working on google sheets together without having an agreed upon method for data management. Simple rules like 'only numbers OR only letters' in a single cell can be a good starting point. Frustrations can really rise if there is misunderstanding on general sheet management. You may find yourself documenting the same thing just on different sheets within the same sheet if you don't start with some basic rules.
Like google docs is similar but not the same as Word, so is google sheets to Excel. There are limitations to the functions in google sheets but it is an excellent starting point.
Biggest downside on the whole is being tied to an internet connection to be able to access information.
