Dovetail is an easy-to-use platform for qualitative research. What we like most about the tool is that it has reduced our hours spent analyzing interviews, through its transcription tools, content tags, AI to summarize ideas.

It has also facilitated the process of managing content, making it easier to organize and find.

There have been a lot of changes to the platform recently, which has made it difficult for us to adapt to them.

Also, the "Insights" tool is still a bit complex to use.

Dovetail is EXCEPTIONAL at customer research. It's built specifically for this use case and it feels like they've thought about every single detail about it. I love that you can drop a transcript or a video interview and get it transcribed in seconds, ready to be analyzed.

The highlights and tags methodology is scalable and you can customize it to whatever research process or nomenclature you use.

Dovetail's interface is beautiful, making it an absolute joy to use day in and day out.

It can take some time to load highlights if you have a large project.

It puts all of our research in one place and makes data available to everyone in the company when they need it. The Zoom integration is great because all of our interviews are really easy to upload and transcribe, so we can just focus on tagging and insight generation.

The tagging is very powerful, but can still feel a bit clunky at times. I would love more AI that helps me tag (not do it for me, but helps me be faster).

What do you dislike about Dovetail?
Core features like workspace tags or fields are locked by expensive enterprise plan that a company like ours can't afford.

Interface could be a bit clunky from time to time

Some inputs could be better automated with integreations (eg Hubspot, Featurebase...)

Dovetail simplifies the process of organising and analysing user research. Whether you're running usability tests, interviews, or surveys, you can configure projects to suit your specific research needs. The transcription, tagging, and automatic summarisation, saves researchers an immense amount of time by speeding up data processing. While the automated highlight grouping feature makes it fast to pull out key insights and identify patterns across projects.

The platform is great for sharing research with the wider business, in particular the highlight reels are easy to put together and share, bringing user feedback to everyone, not just the research team.

Having more customisable ways to present insights could be useful to enhance the overall experience and allow researchers to better tailor findings for different audiences and business needs.

The new AI feature is a game changer, allowing you to analyse at volume at lightning speed with sharp accuracy. It's accelerated the speed at which we work and we couldn't be happier. The support you get is brilliant - issues are jumped on quickly in an efficient and friendly manner. They are leaders in the field.

Tag taxonomy is tricky to nail down and there could be more support for this in the tool

It's great for aggregating customer feedback. I use it to analyze and tag transcripts from customer interviews, and to aggregate the feedback to see which insights rise to the top.

I was confused by their project organization system.

Dovetail has been a game changer for us when it comes to having a research repository, sharing, analysing and synthesising research notes and extracting insights from our user research interviews using Dovetail's new Ai features means we can do that in half the time it used to take us when we didn't use Dovetail.

I believe they've fixed this now but managing users and distinguishing users from research participants used to be confusing

Dovetail really helps get a handle on the mass of material that comes out of interviews

For a tool that's supposed to be for UX researchers, the UX isn't great. There are plenty of little things that could be easily resolved, like if you come out of a video transcript to manage tags, when you go back to the video, you are dumped at the beginning, rather than the last point you were editing.Performance also sucks. There's a 5 second delay when you do anything. Make an edit to the transcript - 5 seconds. Add a tag - 5 seconds. It's really slowing me down and is massively frustrating.I've tried re-booting the laptop and working with ONLY Dovetail loaded, nothing else. Nothing seems to improve it. I have a decent laptop and no other tools suffer from this.On top of that, they offer a few AI tools, but their all talk and no trousers. The AI summary does a poor job on transcripts and stops if the transcript is too long. You certainly couldn't use the summary in a report. Definitely does not live up to the hype.

Poor transcription in Hindi. No provision to filter the highlights to see only the unused tags. Hence, some tags tend to be skipped.

The team behind Dovetail is a-m-a-z-i-n-g! They are always there to answer questions, ask for feedback and encourage discussions. I have never witnessed such caring attention to customers nor experienced such receptiveness to feedback it's just astounding!

The tool is itself designed based on research so it's flexible enough to accommodate different methodologies and workflows but focused enough to support the one you prefer better than anything else. Notes and tags make intuitive sense, and adding files such as images and videos is a breeze.

There are also cherries on top such as automatic sentiment analysis, tracking of notes and tags, integrations with many services including email, Evernote and Slack among others.

It's also just a joy to look at and use because of the welcoming visual design. It is a huge plus for me and one of the main reasons I decided to work with Dovetail. If one is going to spend a lot of time with a tool, aesthetics shouldn't be ignored.

Many features: cross-project search, insights, admin rights etc. are still in development. However, when they arrive, I am 120% confident that they will be powerful! I'm really excited and looking forward to them.

The best thing about Dovetail is the different layers of management and analysis for qualitative data. It enable our team to be on top of qualitative research, and to share and extract key information while there are maybe 10-20 interviews per week. This would not be possible otherwise.

Dovetail is great and love the way it is growing with its users.

Dovetail is really user-friendly. We quite often share our data with relevant stakeholders, who have very little difficulty in using it.

I am also able to synthesise the qualitative data quickly and easily, which is so important for me because I work under Agile. It saves time, and walls of post-it notes!

We also use it as a repository for all of our qualitative data. The ability to add audio and video files, Excel files, and photos to notes is probably my favourite feature -- we no longer have to store it all on the server separately.

The customer service is highly responsive, friendly, and supportive. They cannot be faulted!

A lot of useful features are still in production, such as cross-project search. But I'm more than happy to wait, because it will be worth it!

Incredily intuitive tool that makes it simple to capture and later analyse pieces of user research (in order to share back with the wider product team). It is suitable for both longform unstructured interviews or individually received shortform feedback with meta data. Quickly triaging and tagging qualitative research in this way is simpler easier in Dovetail than other tools I have used.

I would like more computer-assisted automation during the analysis phase and this is an area that I would be excited to see how the team behind Dovetail tackles
