It allows configuring any network element, only with IP address, MIB an OID, and we can monitor from electrical signals, CPU indicators, RAM / ROM memory, UpLink traffic parameters, DownLink, pack discards, traffic overflow and loss. as well as the dating of data, with this indicators, our network is monitored 365 days a year.
Generally in ISPs it is used as a statistical traffic tool which allows to make growth projections in the links of the network of providers, as well as a guide to evaluate post impact work in the network of the ISP company.

ls disadvantages of PRTG are few, however we must be aware that it is not a monitoring software in real time, it interrogates the network element every 5 minutes, and there is an additional time so we should not use it as a ractive failure tool.

I can monitor just about everything I need to monitor. Most are via the built in sensors but the options for custom sensors takes it to the next level.

The price is hard to get past. Smaller shops would have a hard time validating the cost. The interface is can be overwhelming (not sure how to avoid that) and it's frustrating that it's not possible to multi-select objects on a map and move them all at the same time. Instead you have to move them one at a time which can become very tedious.

Crashes and is glitchy, could use some work.

With OID numbers, it can monitor the status of the hardware found on the device. It is informed by the determined threshold value.
PRTG product can be easily managed due to its compatibility with all brands and devices.
We monitor it by integrating it with the switch router access point devices we use.

I would like to make visual monitoring by creating the topologies of the sensors I created, this subject can be developed. There is nothing difficult about the product. It is also easy to integrate with our business processes.

reliability, this is the software for telling me what is happening over the network, so it must need to very accurate and reliable that i can trust on and react to it.

backup is a big headache still, and no easy way to do it. i would prefer automation on this area.Dashboard are not easy to me. so I just click on device page instead of staying in dashboard

prtg uses onboard resources and no lokal agent.

there is a lack of a good priced solution for small environments

Not only did we appreciate the depth and capabilities of the product, but also the customization and granularity of it, allowing us to view the same source information and alerts in different ways. You can receive emails and from there automate your Service Management tools, but the possibility of creating complementary and customized dashboards that we can place on a big screen in our IT room is great.

No real complaints, I did what we needed and way more.

The quick setup and ability to monitor small to mid size environments very quickly. If you are a small business with less than 100 end points then this is the go to product as you get the first 100 devices free

It can be a bit of info overload and you can very quickly run out of devices (under the 100 free) very quickly so have to be quite specific as to what you want to monitor

-Breadth of sensor types available. I can monitor almost everything in my infrastructure, from Azure to 365 to on prem, Server and network Hardware, Windows / linux services and OS data.
-Very customisable in how the above is monitored and Alerted upon
-Easy Creation of Dashboards and Libraries of particular sensor types, for instant visibility.

-Some areas have yet to come to PRTG for example - Azure AKS monitoring, K8s monitoring.
-Takes time to mould it into doing what you want (but once you've put in the work it is truly excellent)
-Some parts of the GUI could have better multi editing capabilities for sensors.

The free version of PRTG network monitor that comes with 100 sensors allows you to do an in-depth analysis of the sensors available, notifications, architecture, monitoring capabilities etc... to determine if it meets your company's needs. The graphical interfaces, intuitive dashboards, and ease of setup and creating templates and inheritance across devices and types allows for easy use and administration.

it can get expensive the more devices and sensors you continue to add to the platform so use your trial to evaluate wisely how you will implement and for what types of devices. the auto discovery can be nice but also tends to clutter up things.

-The free version allows up to 100 sensors to be included on his interface. This feature helps allot of companies IT departments to monitor and compare without limitations.
-Easy installation process for core app, available for SNMP devices (almost every tech device has this option).
-Add devices for a monitor it's easier than other competitors because its agent less and his auto discover feature make deployment process fast and secure.
-Available as web interface with every OS and app for the most important devices (iOS and Android).

-User guide needs to be adapted for none IT users.
-Reports need an experienced partner to customize executive options.
-Customer Support it's not the best part of this company, sometimes take days to solve an issue that would take minutes on other monitoring software.

This software is quite easy and intuitive to set up and use. We have done the installation on our own and have been since then really happy with it. PRTG scans our infrastructure and notifies immediately when something goes wrong. Whenever we install new systems, we look at PRTG and set some basic sensors for each important service, and we are all set. it's a work of a few minutes, you can get most needs coevered with little effort

the web based UI is much better now, but could still be improved a bit in the usability. selecting multiple objects is a bit awkward and not intuitive. some sensors are buggy and we have stopped using them. but that's only a very low percentage of the total

Very wide variety of sensors for monitoring of various applications from SQL servers to custom scripts to ping to SNMP and WMI. Can be configured in a distributed configuration to spread out the load that the sensors place on a monitoring server or to consolidate WAN traffic between the central host and branch offices. Can be setup in a cluster for ultra high capacity server. Very robust selection of reports available with the ability to create custom reports. Beautiful Android client with push notifications. If you are looking for a monitoring solution this need be your one and only stop.

Support can be a little slow to respond often taking a day to respond via email. Only Windows hosts can be used as full sensor probes.

when you have to monitor thousands of server and network routers and switches in one platform. I will always recommend the PRTG Network monitoring tool.

I have been using this application for more than 3 years and I didn't find any drawback to turning me around for any other software.

The basic features work as they should. I have never had any SNMP issues with getting results from my devices. Also I have never had any false positives for these sensors.

The architecture makes it easy to deploy. No agent, just a probe which sends data to a core server.

If you want to go out-of-the box there is a big chance of false positives.

Deploying custom sensors is very labor-intensive work.

You can monitor the different types of devices you use in detail with their own mib and oidlib files.

You need to get mib and oidlib files from open sources or device manufacturers. I expect the software to provide more support.

The setup of the monitor is very easy, allowing you to customise the deployment and scanning options. There are so many different sensors available you will be certain to find the one you need.

It can be overwhelming to see all of the sensors when you do an auto-scan, you just need to realise that you probably don't need to monitor them all and it's better to rather pick and choose the ones that most relevant to your need.

I can monitor the components of the network in real time, one of the most important points is that the alarms that are sent by mail are personalized, you can locate the threshold you want to send and as often as required. We have monitors of all the components and in seconds we know which is alarmed, and we can solve the problem before it becomes serious and stop the operations.

Change the design of the emails is a bit complex, you had to use an external tool to improve the presentation of the emails.

PRTG offers a wealth of information about your network. This software will monitor every aspect of your IT infrastructure. Everything you wanted to know about your network is now available to you, including a few things you may not have thought of.

There is so much information available, learning your way around the interface can be a bit daunting until you're up to speed.

It can monitor many if not all of your network devices, such as firewall, printers, access points, along with software status running on pretty much all hardware, such as real time statistics, can create html maps to embed onto your intranet pages such as with Sharepoint, it also has a great built in reporting interface along with email notifications.

It can take some time to setup sensors the first time, also some of these sensors can be quite complex, requiring the user to call tech support for a viable solution for the expected outcome.

This app was very simple to install and configure. Installation and configuration was very intuitive, as well as the user interface. Also the ability to monitor and setup alerts based upon geographical location makes the app easier to define and monitor

The GUI provides a tremendous amount of info, perhaps too much on an individual screen, which can make it overwhelming on occassion

Paessler recently changed the pricing structure; the old system was a little bit more budget friendly and in my opinion easier to manage.

No Central maps combined on ITOPS servers with multiple core servers connected.
