Overall speaking, if I were looking for an alternative to Google Analytics, this would be my first choice. But if you rely heavily, like myself, on Google's tools, you might find easier just to use Google Analytics. Piwik is a lot more transparent, cleaner, easier to use as a standalone tool though.
Vorteile
I loved the way information is presented to the users. For some aspects it's way clearer and more intuitive than Google Analytics.
Nachteile
While Google Analytics belongs to the same ecosystem as many of the other tools (Google Ads, Search Console, remarketing etc) you would use if you work in digital marketing or you need to get an idea on the data related to your website, Piwik doesn't belong and this makes harder integrating it with other tools. Also, I had some issues when using Piwik in terms of impact on loading and data retention (disk usage was growing exponentially when one of my website ramped up).

I am a big fan of Piwik, it has a lot more functionality than what I thought it would have.

Vorteile
This was a great tool that my company used to help support a lot of different types of websites. It generated in depth reports and made the data clear to understand.
Nachteile
It came down to cost, I really like the software but overtime the value for the money was less and less compared to other free providers.

Vorteile
Privacy protection and it's still possible to store and analyse data while complying with privacy regulations (RGPD). Nice customisation options.
Nachteile
Needed technical help for the initial set up, so take some time to be confident with it.

Vorteile
Piwik pro offers a great solution for all types of business trying to keep up with analytics tools. The tool is complete with an analytics offer, but a consent management platform and a tag management system too. Servers are located in EU, which is GDPR compliant
Nachteile
The tool is still in roll-out, and some features regarding the tag management system of Piwik can be outdated for big companies

Vorteile
Simple and beautiful interface. You can have all the information about your visitors. I really like to be able to know if a visitor is coming back or if it's his first time visiting my website.
Nachteile
Creating custom events for particular actions is a little bit limited because you have to classify them in categories and then it's difficult to get stats from those categories

Piwik PRO: A great analytics tool that puts data privacy first.

Vorteile
Product is easy to use, implement and report with. I like the consent banner tool as well as the many out-of-the-box tracking functions. Privacy is always first and there are a lot of options to protect user data.
Nachteile
The enterprise account can get pretty pricey

That you can install it on your own server and the data is saved in your own database - you you can comply with privacy and data protection laws (especially in the EU).
Nachteile
Offers not so many features like Google Analytics, the web UI is quite slow, not so easy to understand how to go beyond standard features, the mobile SDK could be better

The basic use cases gives you a lot of user's behavior. If implement hooks of determined activities your result will be powerful, though.

Vorteile
J'ai quelques clients qui ont choisi de migrer de GA à Piwik pour la conformité RGPD,
honnêtement, une fois l'outil en main, tout cela s'est passé sans problème.
D'un point de vue fonctionnalités, Piwik Pro est tout de même au dessus !
Nachteile
J'ai un peu de mal à utiliser le gestionnaire de bannière cookie.
je conseille toujours de passer par un logiciel dédié.

La protection de la confidentialité des données et le point fort. Solution parfaite pour collecter, stocker et analyser les données en restant conforme aux réglementations RGPD.
Nachteile
Un peu de complexité de mise en oeuvre + des coûts associés car c'est une solution payante. Cela varie en fonction de la taille de l'entreprise.

Piwik Pro est selon moi la solution la plus aboutie en termes d'interface, tout en respectant les directives RGPD en vigueur.
Nachteile
L'interface reste limité sur la partie tag management et consent management.

L'outil de collecte de données le plus complet

Vorteile
Le premier point fort de Piwik Pro Analytics est que les serveurs hébergent la donnée sur le sol européen. C'est donc une entreprise européenne et qui a une solution validée par la CNIL. Pas de soucis de compliancy donc. L'outil propose plusieurs formule et est 3 en 1. Un TMS, une CMP et un outil analytics. L'outil est également compatible avec Looker Studio
Nachteile
On regrette la technologie et la librairie assez limitée de Piwik Pro qui se compare simplement à Universal Analytics. Le Tag management system est aussi quelques peu archaïque
