I like the ease of adjusting labor rates, and that once conditions are built they remain. > > **Nachteile**: Editing the database is an awful task, and even when you think you have a handle on it....you don't. Formulas are damn near impossible to read unless you have a print out of what each piece of a formula means. In fairness, it is built into the program, but making one from scratch on your own is not worth the time it would take to learn it all. Setting up reports to reflect exactly what you want is extremely difficult. If you did it every single day and learned all of the ins and outs of how to set reports up that's one thing, but this is one of the most unfriendly aspects of the Edge. There are conditions that are never used and are unable to be deleted (hard to count how many times I've selected the wrong conditions), not everything saves in the database (FRP setup), and let's not forget that the amount of updates that there have been; more than Apple, and that's saying something\! I would be more apt to continue using a program like this in the future with some major overhauls on some areas, specifically ACT takeoffs; I can't click and drag for a square footage without it crashing the system. I have brought this to the attention of the developers/programmers and it is still not fixed. Also, is there a 3D rendering coming? > > Not much. I still bid a few projects by hand, but probably 95% of my bidding is using the EDGE. Performance and speed seem great, but I've never used any other estimating programs to compare it with. As for value for the money, I've never had the opportunity to compare it with other programs. I've had no problems with security. > > **Nachteile**: When I was informed that I HAD to switch over to Ver.-10 from Ver.-7.9, since they were no longer going to support 7.9, I was not able to save ANY of my "hundreds" of previous jobs from the past 20+ years. It also didn't allow me to transfer ANY of my custom data base that I had built over the past 20+ years. That switch was a very uncomfortable time for me. > > I've been using the EDGE for roofing estimating since 1998. It has gone through some major "version" changes over the years. I have always been an "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" type person. We still adjust hours in the summary. I asked a question and never got the answer if Report Spray Chart and a drawing can be on the same page? We have to combine 2 pages in 1 for our field. Me, as an user for less than a year, learned pretty quickly how to navigate. UL is still not correct, but we can adjust as needed. Overall great tool and help, from the manual calculating. Not quite sure how much security we have. EDGE updates is pretty frequently, per received emails.
